Students will make a Tree Map of their plans for Community and Service this year AND write a reflection (format tbd/teacher choice, but guided by what is on the rubric).
Sequence:
a. Circle Map of what Community and Service is NOT (ongoing teacher discussion).
b. Circle Map of what Community and Service IS or CAN BE (teachers scaffold; time/talents/treasure: ways people give)
c. Now students create a Tree Map of their "Personal Pledge for Community and Service" this year.
d. Students also write a reflection that explains why they want to do it, and perhaps includes ideas from the Extended Anticipatory Guide, Talking Service texts, International Mindedness activities, and Peace Day.
-Perhaps add specific questions that make students reflect upon readings, Peace One Day, past service
-maybe even connect to the Anticipation Guide statements
-Students will need a list/chart of service opportunities
Great website to have your students visit and browse so they can begin their C&S action: (JO, 10/19) Do Something!
